Rooted in Equity 2022 Campaign for Homeownership

The Rooted in Equity 2022 Campaign for Homeownership connects households from all walks of life to services that build awareness and to show that homeownership is possible. The campaign is dedicated to increasing homeownership rates and addressing related systemic barriers, especially for people of color. The Rooted in Equity 2022 Campaign for Homeownership makes available six million dollars in down payment and closing assistance to increase minority homeownership across Riverside and San Bernardino Counties. This coordinated effort marks the sixth year NPHS organizes a cross-sector campaign to expand homeownership opportunities for historically underserved homebuyers.

The “Rooted in Equity” campaign is structured around a five-point framework to reduce the homeownership wealth gap and preserve generational wealth among underserved communities of color.

Advance economic inclusion strategies to integrate unbanked and underbanked consumers into mainstream financial services.

NPHS has seen a surge in unbanked and underbanked consumers in the region. The campaign will integrate economic inclusion programs to educate underserved consumers about becoming integrated into the banking system and directly link them to safe, affordable financial products and services.

Dispel the myths of homeownership through community outreach and resident engagement.

Overcoming years of discriminatory practices and disinformation entails proactive approaches to marketing, including creating coordinated systems for intake and deploying outreach strategies to foster credibility, assurance, and encouragement to minority households who have “self-selected” themselves out of homeownership and could potentially become homeowners.

Strengthen sustainable homeownership through comprehensive education and post-purchase services to ensure the preservation of generational wealth.

Closing the homeownership wealth gap includes protecting the generational wealth created through homeownership. Working alongside our partners, NPHS provides a continuum of sustainable homeownership programs and services so homeowners can preserve the wealth created through owning a home and transfer that wealth to future generations.
