What is Social Impact Investing?
According to the Global Impact Investing Network (GIIN): “Impact investments are investments made into companies, organizations, and funds with the intention to generate social and environmental impact alongside a financial return. Impact investments can be made in both emerging and developed markets, and target a range of returns from below market to market rate, depending upon the circumstances.”
Social impact investing focuses on both for-profit and non-profit companies that have an intent of making a social impact through a social enterprise business model or practice. Impact investing has evolved into a hot topic among social entrepreneurs and funders which is increasingly relevant to today’s economic shift. Our regional economy in the Inland Empire needs innovative approaches and strategies to address social and environmental issues that can no longer be addressed solely by the philanthropic sector.
