For many families, the holiday season is a time to count life’s blessings. Amidst struggles and challenges, this season is a time of celebration, quality moments with loved ones, and thanks for the true fortunes we possess. For Salena Madrid and her mother Nancy, this December brings forth a particularly special blessing – a home to call their own.
As a single mother raising two children, Salena has worked hard her whole life to make ends meet for her family. Employed as a dispatcher for a forklift and equipment distribution company, Salena’s day doesn’t end at 5 p.m. Like many mothers, 5:00 p.m. marks the beginning of her second job – preparing dinner, helping her kids with homework, and coordinating after-school activities. Fortunately, Nancy, who lives with Salena and the children, has been an instrumental figure, serving as a loving grandmother and helping to raise the kids.
Despite the challenges of everyday life, Salena and Nancy always remained grateful for their surroundings and showed optimism for the future. Within the past year, they began dreaming about homeownership and a more stable living environment. They began looking for homes but ran into a series of obstacles right away. “We struggled tremendously and made multiple offers,” said Salena. “With interest rates [and prices] on the rise, it made it difficult to compete with conventional buyers and investors.”
After endless frustrations nearly caused them to give up on their dream, Salena and Nancy were referred by their agent to NPHS, where they learned about recently renovated properties reserved for low-to-moderate income buyers. One particular home sparked their interest, and the rest is history. “I am thankful,” said Salena. “I can enjoy the holidays with my family in a home.” With the Madrids settling into their peaceful new surroundings, the dedicated professionals at NPHS are also
reflecting on the special time of year.
“NPHS is delighted to have found a home for the Madrids,” said Marisol Garcia, NPHS Real Estate Manager. “It’s a wonderful thing to see this family become homeowners and be in a place of their own during this holiday season.”
