The New Year marks a significant milestone here at NPHS as we will celebrate our twenty-fifth year of improving the quality of life in our neighborhoods. Over the past twenty-five years, NPHS has evolved into a multi-faceted Community Development Financial Institution applying a holistic approach to community development through our Redevelopment, Realty, Homeownership Preservation, and Community Lending and Wealth Building programs and services, all aimed at creating stronger and more vibrant neighborhoods.
As a state-certified Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO), NPHS continues to redevelop neighborhoods by renovating and greening blighted properties and transforming them into healthy homes for first-time buyers. As a certified Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI), we continue to work alongside local municipal housing agencies to administer and provide down payment programs to first-time homebuyers. Through our Healthy Homes program, we provide home improvement loans and grants to low-income seniors and veterans homeowners. Our partnerships with local government have expanded to offer Realty services to help increase affordable housing opportunities for first-time homebuyers. As a HUD-approved Housing Counseling Agency, NPHS continues to provide a wide-array of education and counseling services that both empower and advance community asset-building. These and other services have been critical in developing healthier and more economically resilient neighborhoods throughout San Bernardino, Riverside and East Los Angeles County.
NPHS has invested over two decades in making neighborhoods matter, yet there is much more work to be done. We are working harder than ever to help more of our fellow residents find and sustain safe, comfortable and affordable housing. We are constantly evaluating new approaches and strategies to ensure stable and long-term homeownership solutions. We are reaching out to new partners, developing new funding sources for our affordable housing developments and finding unique and innovative cross-sector approaches to foster effective and meaningful impact.
As we begin 2016, NPHS is ready to challenge and stretch ourselves more than ever to have a stronger impact, innovate further and help more families achieve decent, safe and healthy affordable housing. On behalf of the Board of Directors and staff of NPHS, I thank you for working alongside us and sharing in our collective journey toward strengthening and improving the quality of life in our neighborhoods in the Inland Valley.
May we all reach new heights in 2016.
Cheers!

Rancho Cucamonga, CA – Did you know that there are 5 seasons in the year? Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter and Tax Season! For the upcoming 2016 tax season, NPHS will continue to partner with the County of San Bernardino to offer FREE Federal and California state income tax return preparation and electronic filing services to eligible low-to-moderate income individuals and families through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. VITA offers free tax help to people who earned a household income of up to $54,000 in 2015. Basic tax returns are completed and e-filed by IRS trained and certified volunteers who make sure important refundable tax credits such as the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and the Child Tax Credit (CTC) are correctly claimed.
Qualified taxpayers can be eligible to receive up to $6242 for the EITC, which can make a difference in supporting a family’s financial needs and helping them achieve self-sufficiency. The EITC and CTC tax credits were developed to help provide an incentive for employment. Every year, thousands of families miss out on these refundable tax credits due to lack of awareness on how to claim the credits on their tax returns. The additional money that taxpayers receive as part of their tax refunds helps make ends meet, stabilizes families, and has proven to help boost the local economy.
VITA services are available to qualified residents regardless of the county they live in. NPHS will offer VITA services at their main office location at 9551 Pittsburgh Avenue in Rancho Cucamonga on the following dates in 2016:
