NPHS and City of Montclair to Launch a Health-Conscious Housing Rehabilitation Model for Aging in Place
NPHS is excited to announce a partnership with the City of Montclair to launch Healthy Homes for Seniors—an innovative program designed to support older adults aging in place by transforming their homes into safer, healthier, and more accessible living environments. Set to officially launch in September 2025, this program represents a significant step forward in the integration of health-conscious design within the housing rehabilitation space.
What makes this initiative truly unique is the integration of Occupational Therapists (OTs) directly into the home rehabilitation process. These licensed professionals will conduct thorough in-home assessments to evaluate functional barriers and identify precise modifications tailored to the physical and cognitive needs of senior residents. From fall-prevention improvements and enhanced mobility features to indoor air quality enhancements, the OT-led assessments will ensure that home upgrades are not only code-compliant but also person-centric, improving both health outcomes and quality of life.
This program is a direct extension of NPHS’ broader impact model to embed health-conscious features across its housing construction programs, bridging the gap between housing stability and resident well-being. It reinforces that a home is more than just a roof over one’s head—it’s a foundation for health.
“We’re excited to partner with the City of Montclair on a program that affirms our shared commitment to aging with dignity,” said Clemente A. Mojica, President & CEO of NPHS. “By integrating occupational therapy into our rehabilitation process, we are taking an evidence-based approach to ensure that the modifications we make are not just reactive repairs, but proactive solutions that extend both the lifespan of the home and the independence of its residents.”
As communities face the growing demand for senior-focused services, Healthy Homes for Seniors stands as a replicable model for municipalities and housing organizations nationwide looking to align housing interventions with health equity outcomes.
